Formation sur le Botox et les produits de comblement pour les dentistes de l'Alberta

In 2013, Alberta was the first province in Canada to formally approve the use of Botulinum Toxin (Botox®) at the college level. In collaboration with Dr. Warren Roberts, the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta (CDSA) developed the Facial Esthetics Treatment and Assessment Protocol (FETAP)—a comprehensive guideline that set the industry standard for Botox® and dermal filler training. The FETAP outlined a tiered and gated system for dentists to achieve safe, evidence-based patient care in facial aesthetics and therapeutics.

As a result, Alberta dentists are uniquely positioned to offer facial injectables. Under CDSA guidelines, dentists are authorized to administer Botox® and dermal fillers, provided they have completed appropriate, accredited training.

This presents a significant opportunity for dentists in Calgary, Edmonton, and across Alberta to expand their scope of practice with Botox® training with anatomy-based, therapeutic and aesthetic approaches to facial rejuvenation and pain management.

What Does This Mean for Dentists in Alberta?

Dentists in Alberta can provide Botox® and dermal filler treatments for a wide range of clinical and cosmetic purposes, including:

  • Managing bruxism, TMD, and orofacial pain
  • Treating facial muscle imbalances et migraines
  • Enhancing facial aesthetics, lip symmetry, and smile harmony

These treatments can be offered within the scope of dental practice, so long as the dentist has completed recognized, competency-based training aligned with professional standards outlined by the CDSA.

With increasing patient demand, Alberta dentists are well-positioned to lead one of the fastest-growing areas of healthcare, improving outcomes and elevating their practice.

Why FETAP?

Le Facial Esthetic Therapeutics Anatomy Protocol (FETAP) Standard of Practice—co-developed by the CDSA et Dr. Roberts—establishes a clear and safe framework for injectable education and clinical application. FETAP emphasizes:

  • Deep anatomical knowledge of the head and neck
  • Diagnosis and treatment planning for therapeutic and aesthetic cases
  • Hands-on clinical training with live patients
  • Evidence-based best practices focused on safety, outcomes, and ethics

PTIFAT’s Level 1–4 Botox training programs for Alberta dentists are built around the FETAP Standard, going beyond minimum requirements and giving dentists the tools and confidence to safely integrate injectables into their daily practice.

As a PTIFAT graduate, you’ll exceed the standard of care—delivering advanced facial injectable treatments with a deep understanding of anatomy and clinical excellence.
