Regulations by province (based on the FETAP Standard)

The following Canadian dental colleges have introduced regulations based on the FETAP Standard of Practice for facial aesthetic and therapeutic procedures:

Regulations currently with no FETAP Standard

British Columbia and Ontario have approved the use of Botox and dermal fillers for dental professionals, though their current standards do not yet incorporate the FETAP Standard of Practice.

PTIFAT holds formal accreditation from three independent bodies spanning dental, nursing, and continuing professional development — reflecting the breadth of specialties we serve.

CDSA — Canada’s first accredited provider

In recognition of its commitment to excellence, PTIFAT was the very first educational provider to be accredited by the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta. All PTIFAT courses exceed the FETAP Standard of Practice requirements.

ADA CERP — American Dental Association

PTIFAT is recognized by the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program, which helps dental professionals across North America identify quality CE providers with confidence. ADA CERP does not approve individual courses or imply acceptance of credit hours.

Canadian Nurses Association (CNA)

While none of the provincial nursing colleges in Canada or the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) have formally introduced regulations based on the FETAP Standard of Practice yet, PTIFAT has been formally recognized by CNA as an accredited program and course provider. This accreditation confirms that PTIFAT’s programs meet CNA’s standards for continuing professional development for nurses in Canada. View CNA details here.

History of the FETAP Standard

The establishment of the FETAP Standard of Practice is a critical milestone for the dental and medical aesthetics industry, ensuring that injectable procedures are performed with the highest level of safety, precision and competency. By prioritizing a high level of training, FETAP helps practitioners develop a deep understanding of facial structures, reducing complications and enhancing patient outcomes. As the industry standard in facial aesthetics and therapeutics, it sets a benchmark for education, guiding regulatory bodies and practitioners toward a higher level of clinical excellence and patient care.

The CDSA shared the FETAP Standard of Practice with all dental regulatory boards across Canada. As of April 2025, 7 of the 10 provinces have introduced a standard within their jurisdiction.

FETAP Delegation Standards

A key component of the FETAP Standard of Practice notes that other allied health professionals can provide facial aesthetic procedures in a dental clinic (ie: Physicians, Registered Nurses or Pharmacists), however they must have equivalent FETAP level of training. As such, any treatment rendered by the delegated health professional must be compliant with the CDSA IPC Standards, even if their regulatory body (College of physicians/College of Registered Nurses) requires a lower standard.

Medical College Recognition

While no medical boards in Canada have formally adopted the FETAP Standard of Practice yet, we hope that they will align with FETAP to establish a single, highest standard of patient care. In the meantime, our training programs align with and fulfill the Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements relevant to a physician’s practice.
